Certificate Course in Phytochemistry, Medicinal Plants & Bioinformatics for Drug Design
Course Overview
Medicinal plants have served as one of the most important sources of therapeutic compounds throughout human history. More than 25% of modern medicines are derived directly or indirectly from plant secondary metabolites. Advances in phytochemistry, molecular biology, and computational biology have revolutionised natural product drug discovery. Bioinformatics and computer-aided drug design (CADD) enable researchers to identify bioactive compounds, predict their interactions with disease targets, evaluate pharmacokinetic properties, and accelerate lead discovery while reducing time and cost.
This interdisciplinary certificate course integrates botany, phytochemistry, medicinal plant research, pharmacognosy, molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics. Students will gain knowledge of medicinal plant diversity, phytochemical extraction and characterisation, molecular docking, ADMET prediction, and virtual screening for drug discovery.
